Customer Service

Returns

For most returns and exchanges, the MSU Technology Store is happy to honor a 30-day trial period. If during the first 30 days you feel you need to make another choice, please bring back the product(s), with their original packaging intact, to return or exchange the product.

A 15% restocking fee up to $100 applies in all cases in these categories:

  • Desktops
  • Laptops
  • Tablets
  • Printers
  • Printer ink and toner cartridges
  • Monitors

Personal computer orders require a $100 non-refundable deposit. If an order is canceled, the $100 deposit is applied to the cost of returning the item(s) to our vendor.

Clearnance and Open-Box accessory sales are final. Hardware sales for clearance and Open Box come with a 90-day in-store warranty, in combination with any active manufacture warranty.

Custom ordered computer return and support process. Custom computers are not part of the 30-day trial period. Custom configured purchase returns must include a consultation with the store's hardware procurement specialist {Kelly Weiler - (517) 432-5371 or jackso73@msu.edu}. Custom computer orders require several steps for authorization of return or exchange because of their uniqueness and will not be immediately processed without consulting the vendor agreement with Michigan State University. There are also some circumstances where a return cannot be processed due to the vendor agreement rules surrounding custom computers. Feel free to reach out ahead of your purchase to the MSU Tech Store and Kelly with any questions.

The products that require further support before authorizing a return or exchange after purchase are:

  • Custom Apple laptops, desktops, and workstations
  • Custom configured Dell laptops and desktops
  • Dell tablets
  • Dell Latitude series laptops and Dell Optiplex series desktops from the MSU Technology Store inventory
  • All HP printers, ink, and toner cartridges
  • All accessories that were included in the E-Quote when building a customer computer, such as docking stations or adapters that were ordered through Dell/Lenovo/Apple

MSU Departments must return hardware items through the MSU Technology Store. Do not go directly to vendors for returns and replacements. The MSU Technology Store must handle all returns in order to ensure proper credit and replacement delivery. To request a hardware return, call the MSU Technology Store at (517) 432-0700 or bring the item to be returned to the store.

Refunds

  • Personal credit card refunds will be applied to your credit card
  • Checks will be mailed for cash refunds, this normally takes 3-4 weeks
  • Departmental refunds will be JVE'd to your account

Repair Options

Same great service. Now delivered differently.
We recently made some changes to how we provide computer repair services. While we still offer free consultation and assistance with repairs, we no longer repair the hardware ourselves.

We Have You Covered

The MSU Technology Store has agreements with local area vendors, Digilink and Capitol Macintosh, to provide both in-warranty and out-of-warranty repairs. We will act as your liaison with these companies when you bring us your device and will ensure that you are fully satisfied with your repair experience. Contact us at (517) 432-0700 or techstore@msu.edu at any point during the repair and we will get you an update on its status.
Students who purchased a Dell or Apple laptop from us receive a free loaner laptop while their computer is being repaired.

How It Works

You bring us your device and we will take it from there getting it to either the manufacture or local vendor for repair.

In-Warranty Repairs

  • Repairs covered under warranty for all manufacturers except Apple are sent to the manufacturer to complete.
  • Apple repairs covered under warranty are sent to Apple or Capitol Macintosh (Apple authorized service provider) to complete.
Out-of-Warranty Repairs
  • Departmental out-of-warranty repairs for all manufacturers except Apple are referred to Digilink (MSU approved vendor) to complete.
  • Personal out-of-warranty repairs are referred to Digilink and Vertex Computers (MSU approved vendors) to complete.
  • Apple out-of-warranty repairs are referred to Capitol Macintosh (a local Apple authorized service provider) to complete.
Delivery of personal hardware for repair is available from the MSU Technology Store to Digilink and Capitol Macintosh.

Your Data and Devices are Safe

Both Digilink and Capitol Macintosh have signed agreements with the university covering warranty, risk of loss, security, and protection of the hardware and university data so you can rest easy.
