Adobe Installation and Use Information

Departmental General Information

  • We have perpetual licenses for some products, as well as the new Creative Cloud subscriptions available for departmental puchase.
  • All Creative Cloud licenses will expire on May 15, 2021 and will need to be renewed at that time. (We will hold orders that are close to the next cycle to ensure you get the best price. Please let us know if your purchase cannot wait.)
  • For perpetual (non Creative Cloud Suite) license, when you purchase one license, it can be used on either one Mac machine OR one Windows machine. You cannot use these to license two separate machines (one Mac, one Windows). Please purchase one license for each departmental machine that will be running the software.
  • Creative Cloud licenses are available at a volume discount.
  • Licenses can be purchased per user or per device see Department Licensing Options below.
  • Purchase a license for Adobe. Your receipt is your proof of license.
  • Please include the name and email of the user that will be responsible for the license in the customer comments section of your online order.
  • Media - Provided via email for named user licenses. Device license users need to ge added to our account so that they can create packages for installation. Perpetual license media can be downloaded from msu.onthehub.com.

Departmental Licensing Options

Named User

  • When placing the order please include the name and email of the user who will be attached to the license.
  • If you need a license for a particular user, you can purchase a Named User License.
  • This license must be registerd to a single individual user.
  • This license allows for one installation on a departmental machine, as well as one installation on a second computer, either departmentally or personally owned, that will be used for work.
  • Media for Name User License is downloaded after purchase.
  • Each user in a department will need a license.
  • It is not legal to have one departmental ID that is shared among users.

Device License (For Lab Use/Shared Use Only)

  • If you need a license for your departmental devices that is not attached to a particular user, you can purchase a Shared Device License.
  • This license will allow for one installation on one departmentally owned machine. (One Mac or One PC)
  • Media for Device Licenses must be downloaded. To get access to the download, please contact the MSU Tech Store.
  • This is for lab use only.

Finding your Computer Name

  • Windows 10
    • Open the Control Panel
    • Click on System and Security > System
    • On the View basic information about your computer page, see the full computer name under the section "Computer name, domain, and worgroup settings."
  • Mac OS
    • Choose Apple menu > System Preferences > Sharing.
    • the computer name appears at the top of the window.

Pricing and Budgeting

Below is the 12-month introductory pricing for Departmental use of Adobe Creative Cloud Products offered at the MSU Tech Store for Departmental Name User Licenses. These prices, which went into effect in May 2019, will pro-rate throughout the year, reducing the cost for the MSU Faculty and Staff. Please be advised that these prices are what went into effect for Adobe in the 2019 -2020 contract period and may not reflect the new contract period's pricing for 2018-2019. Departmental Use

  • Adobe perpetual licenses that are available for departments do have a home use provision.
  • The primary user of the work computer has the option to install the program on a home computer as long as it will not be used at the same time as the primary license.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud Named User Licenses also have a home use provision that allows for a second installation on a machine that will be used for work as long as it will not be used at the same time as the primary license.

Departmental Use

  • For perpetual licenses, media is not included.
  • Media can be purchased separately if needed. Downloads are available via msu.onthehub.com.
  • Creative Cloud Suite Named Users will download media from Adobe.
  • Creative Cloud Suite Shared Device License users will need to download a software package for installation.
  • Upon purchase, an Adobe Administrator will need to be assigned to create the page and deploy the Suite.
  • In order to use Creative Cloud Suite on a Shared Device License computer (such as a lab computer) the current end user will have to have an active Adobe ID, which is free to create from Adobe.
